Got back from Gold yesterday and, man, was it awesome. Here's a list of the bunch of things I did.
.:: GOLD EXPEDITION '08 ::.
Duration: 10th June - 14th June
Location: LCCT, Kota Kinabalu, Kinabalu Park, Mount. Kinabalu, Low's Peak, Sapi Island
WHAT I DID:
- Mountain Climbing.
- Did a FlyFish®
- Floated on the open sea.
- Swam through harsh waves to get to Casey, Shi Fen and the boat.
- Slipped on wet, slippery rocks.
- Stepped on lots of mud.
- Posed for cameras.
- Screamed.
- Made lame jokes.
- Respected trees. (don't ask)
- Climbed up and down multiple stairs. Multiple
- Slept in an amazing cabin.
- Watched the sun set behind the mountain.
- Watched the sun set in the cover of mist.
- Conquered Mount. Kinabalu with cramps, a stick and deep heat.
- Snorkeled.
- Got hyper.
- Sms-ed some awesome friends back home. ;D
- Consumed Kit Kats and Oreos.
- Sang weird songs with William on the plane (e.g. Can't Fight This Feeling).
- Watched the mist slowly cover the hills.
- Lay down on rocks.
- Climbed with bare hands (no gloves, mind you. they were wet and freezing cold).
- Saw the Damansarans hiking down.
- Said "Hi" to the Damansarans.
- High-Fived countless people.
- Motivated other climbers (with words such as "it's not that far ahead", "just up that flight of stairs" & "if i said it was easy, i'd be lying").
- Kicked Shi Fen in the face after being tossed of the banana boat (if you're reading this, SORRY SHI FEN!).
- Sms-ed a Damansaran Gold Expedition Member.
- Stuffed an incredible amount of clothes into a small Duffel Bag.
- Saw nine huge Monitor Lizards.
- Climbed in the dark.
- Cut my hands (one knuckle, two fingers) near the peak; they wouldn't stop bleeding - why? the cold, wind and high altitudes.
- Jumped off a speeding Flyfish®
- Skipped on the water's surface numerous times. Numerous.
- Skipped stones.
- Laughed so much with Adrian, I had stomach cramps.
- Ate.
- Used extreme Sarcasm.
- Listened to "This Is Home" by Switchfoot. *you should too.
- Hanged with the Sports Department.
- Climbed above the clouds.
- Saw two planes while on the slopes of Mount. Kinabalu.
- Saw Giant Worms.
- Woke up five minutes before the alloted time.
- Walked twenty steps and lay/sat down for thirty seconds on the climb.
- Resisted the pain of the cuts, cramps and sores. *i'm very resistant, mind you. ;)
- Climb up & down ropes.
- Had a serious case of hat/mask hair.
- Had five layers of torso clothing, two layers of pants, two layers of socks, two layers of underwear, one layer of WET gloves, one mask, glasses, an a hood for the climb to the peak.
- Wore Badminton shoes for the whole climb up & down. Yes, you read me. Badminton Shoes.
- Saw fish.
- Saw birds at high altitudes.
- Moved very, very quickly to escape the mists which were racing up the slopes. You don't wanna get caught in the middle of one. Visibility: Nil.
- Thought about a few people back home. :)
- Got closer to the Cherasians.
- Got closer to the only Damansaran on our Gold Team.
- Slept early, woke up early.
- Danced.
- Talked.
- Had Starbucks.
- Lost my watch. My good G-Shock Watch that can survive up to 20 bars underwater, and survive altitudes of more that 3,500 metres above sea level.
- Made Khong Fwu pose beside Kung Fu Panda posters. *he looks very much like the panda.
- Had a crazy number of roommates.
- Woke up at 0100 to climb to the peak.
- Kicked butt - literally.
