Of Friends, Sun Burns and Exam Marks

Well, Games Carnival (for Cherasians) is over. It was a great run filled with sun burns, blisters, sprains and sports! Gonna miss it.

Saw some old buddies of mine from Damansara, made some new ones. To name a few: Ga Louh, Hazel, Justin, Gaz.

To all the Damansarans, all the best for your Games Carnival. You'll be playing games, I'll be in class. Hope I get to see you all during break and lunch! It's at 1100 to 1130 AND 1330 to 1400. Go set your alarms. ;D

Oh, yes. And bring loads of sun block. You're gonna need it. Lots of it. In fact, just bring 3 bottles. The sun's been blazing all week.

Looks like we (the Internationals) will be getting back our long-awaited marks this week. "Whoppie". Good luck guys! ;)

Mayhem

Well, I'm currently burning my hands off right now with Gears of War for the PC and all I can is, "It is friggin' awesome."

However, it wasn't 'till today that I played it. When I installed it, at around the same time I published the last post, it didn't work. When I inserted the second DVD, it said some file could not be found. I was like, "What? Why? WHYYY?"

In the mean time, I installed Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance and it delivers. Its predecessor, Supreme Commander, was already pretty great with its large maps, excellent army co-ordination and controls. This expansion, perfects it. Sure you need a powerful rig to play it, but it's quite amazing to see it run. This game adds an entire new faction, The Seraphim, to the game and a few extra units here and there. It also changes the control scheme so that it's now far more easier to learn ad play. This game is definitely for the RTS fanatics.

After trying out some of the new units, experimentals and the new faction, I figured I should try installing Gears of War again. Sadly, it failed once more.

I installed The Witcher soon after. I haven't even played it yet. The installation process took around 1 hour to extract everything. It was late, so I went to bed.

Then today, I went back to the shop, returned the Gears of War DVD, and got a new one in exchange. I got home installed it, and whatdoyaknow, it worked.

It. Is. One. Helluva. Game. While not much like its Xbox 360 counterpart, the controls are brilliant. The graphics are sweet, sweet eye candy. The blood's abit fake though. Still all around fun. This game is not just a port to the Game of the Year 2006. No, this game adds loads more, and I haven't even gotten to those bits yet. Finally, we get to face off with the Brumak. Gonna be one awesome battle.

Ah, yes. I also managed to get my hands on God of War: Chains of Olympus. If you have a PSP, get this game. This is definitely the best game you can get on the PSP to date. It looks brilliant, the levels are expansive and the controls are simply to die for. I would even say its controls and graphics are far better than its PS2 brothers. I mean the background actually moves and reacts. Just awesome. The only bad side to this is the game's really short. About 8 hours and you can probably beat the game.

Well that's all for today most likely. All of you must think I'm some geek/nerd/game freak or something by now. Well, I am. Bug off! :D

Games Carnivals next week. Gonna be looking forward to that. To all houses, ALL THE BEST! We all know who's gonna take home the cup this year. ;D

GO SE-LA-DANGGG!

See you guys next week.

Dawn of the Fifteen Year Old

Well, I'm fifteen. So this is what it feels like have lived for fifteen years. Not that great, if you ask me. ;D

Thanks to all you wonderful guys out there. My tagboard's like filled with loads of wishes. To all those who wished me, got me stuff, hugged me and went "IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY??? OMGAWD, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D", thanks loads. I love you guys. :)

So well I got a few things, got LOADS of wishes and had a new experience. Car broke down, sat at the side of a shopping lot, waited for the tow-truck (which was probably the most advanced one I've ever seen. Period), walked over to some really dark bus stop, got on a taxi and drove off home. Long story. ;D

So well, one more final day of exams. Then you can expect loads of posts to be published. I've also decided to begin drawing again, so keep your eyes open for that.

So, I'm currently installing Gears of War for the PC. Gonna be one helluva a game.

Good luck Internationals! AND Welcome back Nationals! :D

Gonna be one friggin' awesome year.

A Battle of Wits and Stationary Equipment

Well, it's finally here. After all this time, it's finally here.

The Second Term Examinations.

So just wanted to wish all the Internationals good luck and to wish the Nationals to have a nice holiday and safe travels to wherever they may be headed.

Don't expect any new posts for awhile here, though I'll try to update with some fun stuff once in a while. I might even pop in during my birthday for one or two posts.

Oh, and don't worry, our holidays are coming soon after. And by "our" I mean the uncanny Internationals. Whooh. ;D

Brace yourself.

Of Discursive Essays

On Monday, 3rd of March, the class of Year 9 Terra learnt from the ever wonderful Ms. Ong how to write a discursive essay. What is a discursive essay? Well clearly its an essay that is "discursive." What is discursive, then? Now, that's another story. ;)

So our topic for the day was "Should Smoking Be Banned?". Here's my essay:

DISCURSIVE ESSAY
“Should Smoking Be Banned?”

Smoking is a very serious issue in today’s culture and life. Tobacco-related diseases are some of the biggest killers in the world today and are cited as one of the biggest causes of premature death in industrial countries. Yet, it is a source of income for many developing countries. So here the question arises, “Should smoking be banned?”.

Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any other single disease as classified by the World Health Organisation. This is also probably due to second-hand smoke affecting other non-smokers. Diseases linked to smoking include many forms of cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory ailments, cataracts that may cause blindness, birth defects of pregnant smokers’ children. In short, smoking is extremely harmful to our health and the health of the people around us.

Smoking not only causes harm to people but the environment as well. As tobacco plants are very prone to disease, huge quantities of pesticides are used during their growth thus afflicting nature. Following the harvest, tobacco is cured to preserve it for storage, transportation and processing.  Most tobacco is flue cured which involves passing heated air through the harvested leaves.  In many developing countries trees are cut down to provide fuel for this process. The littering of cigarette butts and cigarette packets are also an increasing issue that needs to be resolved. So with all this said, smoking should be banned. Shouldn’t it?

Some people are actually against the ban, for reasons which are also understandable. Some would say that smoking bans are an infringement of civil liberties. Many people believe it is their right to watch over their own health and not the government’s. In addition to this, smoking bans stigmatise smokers. Some also question why does the government jeopardise smokers and not drinkers - both are bad for your health.

A smoking ban would also have a detrimental effect on trade in bars and restaurants. The smoking ban would thus “kill” the pub trade. Bars and restaurants have to police the 'no smoking' regulations, and this can lead to friction with customers. Other than that, the farming of tobacco is the only source of income for many people in developing countries, where other jobs are scarce. A smoking ban would endanger them from facing poverty.

In conclusion, the issue of smoking is both a danger to human health and a crucial part of the economy. So should it really be banned? In my thoughts, it should. Smoking endangers the lives of millions of people, including children who suffer from second-hand smoking. It is the health of us all that is important, not the economy thriving. After all, without us, who will bask in the fruits of the economy?

Mind boggling, isn't it? To ban or not to ban? Oh well, you'll figure it out. ;D

Janice. A common name, or something much more?

Due to the request of a very dedicated reader, I shall now write one paragraph about her. Here goes. ;D

"Janice. Jan-Jan. They're all one in the same. But who is she really? Well she's this really smart bunny who plays the chinese drums. No, really. She's an amazing friend who'll help anyone in need, and call a familiar writer "Bern-Kid". She's a Cempakan. She's a prefect. She's president of PAPS and a Cempaka Beat senior to boot. She's in Year 11 and preparing for her IGCSE as I write this. She has many a time lend a hand to those in need. Whenever I was down, a hand reached out, pulled me back up and gave me hope. The hand of a friend. This paragraph is dedicated to Janice."

Long enough for you Janice? ;)

Birth

Well February's been an interesting month. Here's a list of what I've done this month:

1) Ran all around school.
2) Became the emcee for one or two occasions.
3) Did some projects. Passed them up.
4) Went for camp. ;D
5) Cramped up.
6) Played the chinese drums.
7) Swam.
8) Ran all around school.
9) Did my probate-y duties.
10) Quiz-ed.
11) Listened to some tunes.
12) Got extremely close with the Prefect Board. ;DD
13) Did loads of work. LOADS.
14) Saw some old friends from WoZ.
15) Did I mention running around school?

So yea, it's been a very productive and memorable month. Gonna miss it.

In 15 days, something big's gonna take place. Its on a Sunday. Mark it on your calendars. ;D

Plus, I just wanna say, Cempaka's Prefect Board is just so amazing. Caring. Strong. Close. Dedicated. Sincere. Intuitive. Brave. Friendly. Funny. And to put it plainly, friggin' awesome. I love you guys.

And Resistance 2's single-player campaign's already done. Yes, amazing. And it isn't even coming out yet, still approximately 8 more months to go. Its still its rough form though. This is part of Insomniac Games new initiative to finish the gameplay portion of their games first and polish and sort of "beautify" it later. However, the game's looking amazing. For the features and brief summary on the story, check out my last post. Courtesy of Wiki. ;D

Resistance 2 will definitely open with a bang. It's a game that won't be ignored.
